Why I would never buy essential oils at Walmart @MamaKautz

I don’t even know where to start with this article. I want it to be educational for you, not a rant post on the quality, or lack there of, about some essential oils.

I Get It!
I want you to know I get it. I totally understand WHY you would want to get essential oils at Walmart or the health food store. Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want 2 different oils AND a diffuser for $20.

Not all oils are created equal.
Why you ask? Well, I am going to tell you.
There really isn’t a standard for essential oils. This goes for ALL essential oil companies, not just the share from home or the ones you find at a health food store. The labels on the Walmart oils say 100% pure. The tests done on them prove otherwise.

They’re cheaper than those other companies, so why not?

I know you probably want to get into oils and think that this kit is a good way to do it. These may be ok for aromatic use. I wouldn’t let them touch my skin and definitely never put that peppermint in my water.

You may be asking why? Well. I will tell you why. Dr. Robert Pappas tested the peppermint and the lavender that comes in this ‘kit.’
The “peppermint” (results here) is Cornmint oil (Mentha arvensis) and not Peppermint (Mentha piperita). The lavender? Not so much. You kind find the results also on his Facebook page.

It takes over 30 pounds of Lavender to get a 5ml bottle of oil. Do you think a quality oil is going to cost $5-10?
When a bottle of Lavender runs around $21 (my cost) and it has 250 drops that is about .08 per drop and you only need 1-2 drops per use. Tell me again how oils are expensive.
I get it, I really do. It’s like buying the name brand vs store brand to save money. Except we aren’t talking aspirin or heat packs. We are talking about synthetics and fillers in oils you want to use on your family.

Please don’t even go buy it to get the diffuser. It is only encouraging Walmart to #1 stock the oils and #2 sell inferior products.
(This is one of my favorite diffusers)

Who is the Pappas guy?
I understand you could argue that this Dr. Pappas guy did the tests and that doesn’t prove anything. You’re right, except he is highly regarded in the essential oil community, and not just with the two big network marketing companies.
He is an independent scientist who tests the oils himself.
